Just beneath the Logo are the first three buttons:
- Home takes you to the main search page, resetting all parameters.
- About reveals information on Quokka, our Staff and Contact Details.
- Register is where you sign up to be able to place adverts online.
To the right of the screen you'll find the "Member Account" buttons.
- New Password sends a new password to your registered email address. Use this if you lose or cannot remember your Password.
- Log In takes you to the Login Page. You must be registered first.
- Log Out: Once you have logged in successfully - the "Log In" button will change to a "Log Out" button. It is best practice to always "Log Out" when you have finished a session.
The "Browse Box" is used for general category navigation and to narrow searches.
There are two ways to make use of this tool.
Important: These uses have very different outcomes. Read this section carefully.
- For Search: Select a visible category by clicking on a matching radio button (The circles to the left). All searches will now take place within that category. Any search you are already conducting will be narrowed to that category (and its sub-categories) only. Proceed by selecting the "go" button in the "Search Box".
- For Browse: Move over the text of the category and click. This will refresh the page, showing listings from that category (and its sub-categories) only. However, all current search details will be lost - you will be shown ALL listings from that category and its subcategories.
You can combine these functions by using the "Browse" method to drill down to the subject you wish to examine and then, once there, enter a search.
You can ALSO use the "Show All" button to go to a master category list. There you can select your category, press the "go" button at the bottom of the page and be returned to the search page within the chosen category.
The "Search Box" is used enter search criteria to find specific interests.
- Search Text Box is where you enter the keywords that you want to search for. Try to be more specific where possible - a search for "car" is not likely to result in a very narrow result.
- Results per Page sets the number of items you want listed per results page. The higher the number the longer the page will take to download BUT you will have fewer total pages to view. The balance varies according to individual preferences so experiment until you find your preference.
Below these two elements you will see a list of Checkboxes. This list will vary, depending on whether you are logged in or not. If you are not then you will see the list as show in the sample. This consists of:
- Bookmarks Only will limit your results to Items that you have "Bookmarked". For an explanation of bookmarks; what they are; and how they work - go here.
- Adverts in Paper will limit your results to Items that are in the paper only. You can select this if "Bookmarks Only" is selected to show ONLY Bookmarked Items that are from the paper.
- Online Adverts will limit your results to Items that are Online only. You can select this if "Bookmarks Only" is selected to show ONLY Bookmarked Items that were submitted Online.
For people who are registered and have logged in, another option will be listed (at the top of the list).
- My Adverts Only will limit your results to Items that you submitted. That is - you will be shown any Adverts that you entered online. This will show them regardless of whether others can see them yet (eg: They are Pending Review or Saved until later). Selecting "Adverts in Paper" will be ignored since all of your Adverts will have been submitted online.
Special Note: If you select "My Adverts Only" and "Bookmarks Only" you will be shown your adverts - not your bookmarks - as the former has higher priority.
The "Page Navigation Box" appears at the top and bottom of every results page.
- Page Jump List: This is the line of pages numbers at the top. You can jump to a listed page by clicking on a number. The current page is highlighted in red and bold.
- Page/Search Details: Below the Page jump list you will find statistics that tell you: the page you are on; the total number of pages in the result; the results displayed on this page; an the total number of results found.
You may also see an entry for "Frozen Adverts". This tells you how many Frozen Ads are show at the top of the current page. For an explanation of frozen adverts; what they are; and how they work - go here.
Beneath the Details box you will see a category list that shows the path you took to get to your currect category/sub-category. In the example image - this is the word "Everything" which means the search has not been restricted by category. Where you are within a specific category, the categories "above" the current category (to the right in the list) can be clicked to broaden the search.
